Monte Carlo Italian Deli, which has been in Magnolia Park for more than fifty years, sits next door to Pinocchio Restaurant, opened by the same family in 1971. Tonir Cafe, a family-run Mediterranean spot open since 2011 on the north end of San Fernando Boulevard, is the closest of these to the downtown festival footprint.
Where the New Openings Fit
A calendar this dense is easier to plan when there are also new places to try. The 2026 openings on and around San Fernando Boulevard are the ones most likely to intersect with festival week.
Scum & Villainy: Rendezvous Cantina, a fandom-focused bar and restaurant with an immersive science-fiction and fantasy atmosphere, is planned for a 5,300-square-foot space at 346 North First Street with an opening targeted for later in 2026. The Burbank location makes sense in a city shaped by film, television, animation and production work, and it could become a natural stop after a studio tour, genre screening, or convention-style event. Whether it opens in time to catch the tail of the film festival is the question.
As of July 2026, some announced concepts remain in development, while Van Leeuwen Ice Cream already lists an operating Burbank scoop shop on its official website. Other anticipated arrivals around the wider downtown include Mom's Bakery at 409 North Glenoaks Boulevard, WhataPeach at 453 South Glenoaks Boulevard, Fire Wings at 109 East Alameda Avenue, and Potato Corner or Incredible Fries at 201 East Magnolia Boulevard.
The interpretation for someone already living here: the density of coming-soon spaces on First Street, Alameda, and Palm means the festival crowd is going to be walking past construction paper on windows and posted opening dates all August. Some of those doors will open before Labor Day. Some will not.
